In 1872, the Adnams family purchased an existing brewery in Southwold which has been operated by the family ever since. There are records of brewing on this same site as far back as 1345!

Established in 2010, the distillery has been uniquely designed to create a “Grain to Glass” spirit using locally-grown malted barley, wheat and oats.

The “distillery wash” which forms the base for their spirits, actually starts life as their 7% abv, unhoped beer, produced using Adnam’s own 70-year-old yeast strain. This is then distilled in small batches in our specially designed copper stills and rectifying columns to produce hand-crafted spirits with exceptional quality.

We Care About The Environment…

First brewer to track the carbon footprints of all of our beer. Our energy-efficient brewery uses a quarter of the energy we used in 2007 as we now recycle steam to heat the next brew. We have a water efficiency ratio of 3 pints of water to make 1 pint of beer. This is very efficient; others can use as much as 6 pints of water! None of our brewery waste goes to landfill. Nearly a third is sent to our Anaerobic Digester and turned into bio methane; a ‘green’ gas. Our eco distribution centre means we do not have to use any artificial cooling or heating.

“Made from a mash of malted wheat, malted barley, and malted oats, this evokes chocolate orange, with hints of lemon and grapefruit, toasted coconut, ground ginger, clove, peppercorn, and cantaloupe. Toffee, sweet and tangy satsuma, a dash of clove, chocolate-dipped lemon biscuits, and a hint of oak astringency usher in a finish of bitter peel oils and ground pepper. Try a splash of water to accentuate the bitter orange notes.”

HOW IS IT MADE

Our Triple Malt Whisky is made with wheat, barley and oats. The wheat creates extra smoothness and the oats, creaminess. This whisky has been aged in new American oak barrels.

WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?

Ageing in new American oak barrels has created bold, strong flavors of coconut and chocolate. The nose is complex with notes of spice, coconut and toasted oak, citrus fruit and sweet honey.

“Incredibly expressive and fresh, this has a big and pronounced set of aromas, including new oak and spicy notes, plus orchard fruit and stone fruits. Apricot jam and baked apples, too, with a touch of cinnamon dusting and custard. A well-balanced and beautiful palate with spicy notes leads on to a herbal, long finish. A fantastically fresh and expressive whisky.”
