Teerenpeli Brewery and Distilery

Teerenpeli is a family owned brewery and distillery in Lahti, Finland which was founded by Anssi and Marianne Pyysing in 1994. Teerenpeli is the oldest whisky distillery in Finland. Distilling began in 2002.

Teerenpeli’s whiskies are distilled from Finnish malted barley, all of which is grown within 100 miles of the distillery.  This barley is grown during the short, but intense Finnish summer which is characterized by long days.

The distillery uses clear and fresh groundwater which is filtered through the Salpausselkä ridge system, a gravel ridge formed by the last ice age, around 10,000 years ago.

All heat required for Teerenpeli’s production is generated with renewable energy.

“The nose is lavish, with dried orange peel, raisins, plum, gingersnaps, aniseed, and menthol. It’s a thick, malty, statement whisky, rich with raisin, prune juice, heather honey, fig, and walnut, and laced with aniseed and clove. Pleasantly reminiscent of childhood cough medicine, there are long, sweet, syrupy prune notes at the end. It feels like it must be doing you some good.”

Teerenpeli’s KASKI is matured only in carefully selected sherry casks.

The name KASKI is derived from traditional Finnish farming vocabulary, meaning swidden or burnclearing. This is the first phase of cultivation–a new beginning—representing the fact that KASKI is the first release of Teerenpeli’s Distiller’s Choice Series.

“This impressive whisky lets the port lead the dance, but never treads on the toes of its partner. The nose reveals prominent cask influences of pomegranate, inky plum flesh, blackberry, and gummy cherries, with a supporting cast of honeycomb, dried herbs, and bay leaf. It jinks and dodges between dried peel, fudge, baked orange, vanilla, and fine spice notes before developing into a sweet ripe cherry and red apple finale.”Nose: Strong fruitiness, roasted sugar flavors, well balanced with a malty sweetness.
